Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra’s 2020 Season
The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra’s 2020 season features a variety guest collaborations with whom they will perform gems from the classical and romantic eras with an acknowledgement to contemporary Australian repertoire.
Directed by violinist Rachael Beesley, the year’s curtain raiser The Impresario in March, includes the Overture to Mozart’s opera of the same name, with works by Beethoven and the lesser known Austrian pianist and composer Anton Eberl.
In May, Jakob Lehmann conducts Haydn’s dramatic oratorio The Creation with Sydney Chamber Choir and soloists soprano Celeste Lazarenko, mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, tenor Andrew Goodwin and bass-baritone James Ioelu.
Anneke Scott is the soloist on that most difficult of instruments, the natural horn, when Rachael Beesley directs The Souvenir, in August, a programme which includes Mozart’s transcendental Serenade No. 6 in D major Serenata Notturna K.239, the Horn Concerto No.3 in E-flat major, K.447, Beethoven’s Sextet for winds in E-flat major, Op.71 and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence Op.70.
ARCO’s educational series continues concurrently with the Voyage of Musical Discovery at the City Recital Hall, presented by Rachael Beesley and Nicole van Bruggen. In March, guest saxophonist Nick Russoniello explores Motivic Development with the ensemble with music by Eberl and Russoniello’s Suite for Saxophones and Loop Station (2019).
ARCO performs Louise Farrenc’s Nonet in E-flat Major Op.38 (1849) in April with guest artists Sydney Chamber Choir in Voices & Instruments. The choir joins the instrumentalists to perform Ella Macens’ Stavi stivi (2019), Paul Stanhope’s I have not your dreaming (2005), Clare Maclean’s West Irish Ballad (1988) and Joseph Twist’s How shall we sing in a strange land (2011).
Finally, in August, Texture & Timbre, Taikoz are guest artists with the orchestra performing Mozart’s Serenade No. 6 Serenata Notturna K.239 (1776) and Taikoz performing Ian Clewarth’s Home (2017).
ARCO will perform its 2020 season at the City Recital Hall, Sydney and at the Hills Grammar School Performance Centre.
