Sydney’s ‘House’ in Lego

If you thought you’d seen it all when Mattel released its Opera House Barbie doll, resplendent in ocean coloured mermaid dress with swirls of white, think again. Now Lego have released its vision of the Sydney Opera House as part of its Architect series, placing the distinctive building alongside others in this collection which includes New York’s Guggenheim Museum, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Frank Llloyd Wright’s Falling Water, and Robie House in Chicago and Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House, also in Chicago.

Designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon who submitted his design in 1956, the Sydney Opera House was opened in December 1973.

Artist Adam Reed Tucker designed the model for Lego. He says “The powerful form this iconic structure possesses created unique and difficult challenges. Whereas with previous models I was equally concerned with the form, proportions, scale, color, texture and overall composition, in this challenge I was solely concerned with the peaks of the roof shells”.

The model has 260 bricks and is available at the Sydney Opera House shop
