DESCRIPTION:The Australian Haydn Ensemble celebrates a decade of music-making in 2022 with the Australian period-instrument premiere of Josef Haydn’s joyful and monumental oratorio The Creation (Die Schöpfung). \nThis majestic oratorio\, with its libretto drawn from the Books of Genesis and Psalms\, and Milton’s Paradise Lost has been one of Haydn’s\nmost popular works\, and in many ways represents the summit of his craft. His transition from a musical depiction of dark nothingness to the choir’s blazing “And there was light” is one of the great moments in music\, and enough to raise the hair of believers and cosmologists\nalike. The Big Bang is a hard act to follow\, but Haydn effortlessly nails it\, sustaining over a hundred minutes of orchestral tone painting\, monumental choruses and lilting arias. \nConducted by Roland Peelman\, the Australian Haydn Ensemble is led by Artistic Director Skye McIntoss with soprano Alexandra Oomans\, tenor\nAndrew Goodwin\, bass James Ioelu and the Sydney Chamber Choir\, Chorusmaster Sam Allchurch. \nPerformances also at the Canberral International Music Festival\, 29 and 30 April at 7 pm.
