SUMMARY:Bach Akademie Australia presents Collegium Musicum
DESCRIPTION:Bach Akademie Australia presents Collegium Musicum\, celebrating the atmosphere of musical and scientific enlightenment in 18th century Leipzig\, in two Sydney concerts (Mosman and the ACO Neilsen\, Walsh Bay). \nLeading from the violin\, Artistic Director Madeleine Easton and her ensemble comprising violinist Simone Slattery\, flautists Mikaela Oberg and Jessica Lee and harpsichordist Nathan Cox\, perform  music from the famous concert society where many of J S Bach’s most famous pieces were born or adapted. \nIn 1702 in Leipzig\, Bach’s great friend and colleague Telemann recognised the need for an environment in which his students could perform in public and where musical and academic pursuits could be fostered. The Collegium Musicum was born. When Bach arrived in Leipzig in1723\, he inherited this organisation\, allowing Bach to expand his writing of secular music\, separate from his church appointment. \nFeaturing Telemann’s Tafelmusik and Bach’s timeless Concerto for Two Violins in D minor\, along with music by Vivaldi and Fasch\, this program presents works performed at the Collegium by Bach\, his predecessors and his children\, shining a light on the legacy of this remarkable and enlightened institution. \nThe program: \nJohann Sebastian Bach: Concerto in D minor for two violins\, BWV 1043/ Trio Sonata No.1 in F major\, BWV 525/Concerto in F major for solo harpsichord\, BWV 978 \nGeorg Philipp Telemann: Selections from Tafelmusik\, TWV 50:5/ Violin Concerto in A major\, TWV 51:A4 (The Frogs) \nJohann Friedrich Fasch: Sinfonia in G minor\, FWV M:g1\nAntonio Vivaldi: Trio Sonata for two violins\, RV63 (La Folia) \nFriday June 12 at 2.30pm Mosman Art Gallery \nSaturday June 13 at 7.30pm The Neilson\, ACO on the Pier \nTickets \nor call 1300 785 377 \nRead our review of the Bach Akademie Australia’s concert of The Brandenburg Concertos. \n
