Opera in the Domain

Pack your picnic basket and get ready for a night of incredible opera en plein air, as Mazda Opera in the Domain is just around the corner, with some of Opera Australia’s most renowned singers performing operatic favourites throughout the evening.

Local and international artists will gather under the stars with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO) under the direction of conductor Brian Castles-Onion and ABC Classic FM’s Christopher Lawrence as the Master of Ceremonies. Opera in the Domain has been an annual event since 1982, when Dame Joan Sutherland sang La traviata.

Part of Sydney Festival, the free outdoor concert will feature popular arias from works by opera’s greatest composers sung by sopranos Lorina Gore and Natalie Aroyan; mezzo‐soprano Sian Pendry; tenor Diego Torre and baritone Luke Gabbedy.

This year marks five years of Mazda Australia being a Principal Sponsor of Opera Australia. Mazda and Opera Australia are giving away a Mazda CX-5, and everyone present at Opera in the Domain will have the opportunity to enter the draw. For your chance to win, you can also enter online here. The winner will be drawn on February 1st.

A range of food and beverages is available in The Domain from early afternoon to the end of the evening, or patrons can bring their own picnics. For the comfort of Mazda Opera in the Domain patrons, high chairs and beach umbrellas are not allowed and, to protect the lawn, plastic sheeting and ice are not permitted on the grass.
