The rare 18th century keyed trumpet will be heard in concert this Sydney when virtuoso Gabriele Cassone performs with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Listen to Gabriele Cassone perform Haydn’s Trumpet Concert in E flat, which is also featured in the Sydney recital.
Georg Philipp Telemann born March 14th 1681 (d 1757) . Friend and rival of JS Bach and Handel. Bach appointed Telemann godfather to his son Carl Philipp Emmanuel after whom he was also named. Fabulous playing of Telemann’s oboe concertos from the noted oboeist Heinz Holliger.
Verdi was born in a small village in the Duchy of Parma where the baptismal register of October 11th states that he was ‘born yesterday’. As days were sometimes counted as beginning at sunset, it is not clear whether he was born on the 9th or the 10th of October in 1813. Whichever way, it would be legitimate by now to celebrate…
