Artsongs from the new world

America isn’t a nation that is usually associated with Artsong. Indeed American Artsong is a relatively young genre with tentative beginnings in the 18th century, which evolved through the decades in the hands of composers like Stephen Foster, Louis Gottschalk and Edward MacDowell in the 19th century, to the exquisite compositions of Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Andre Previn, Leonard Bernstein, Ned Rorem and John Corigliano in our times.

Artsong NSW presents “The American Connection” this Sunday, 31st July same time, same place – more than a humble church St John’s in Neutral Bay is like Dr Who’s time capsule – step inside and you will be transported – Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Vienna, Scandinavia – and now, the USA!

The soloists, soprano Naomi Johns, tenor Alexander Lewis and baritone Michael Honeyman will perform with pianist Tahu Matheson.

Tickets are $30/20 , available at the door and include refreshments.
