Novocastrian cellist Anthony Albrecht performs at Glebe Town Hall as part of his ongoing ‘Bach to the Bush’ concert series. Anthony is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School’s prestigious Historical Performance program which he attended on full scholarship, the first Australian to be admitted to this course.

In this two-hour concert selections from J.S. Bach’s stunning suites for solo cello are interspersed with other short, early works for the instrument and discussion of the historical and cultural context of this timeless music.

In 2012, Anthony left Australia to undertake a Master’s degree in historical performance at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He said at the time, “On my return to Australia I will bring back a set of technical skills, cultural exposure and musical passion fostered at one of the world’s greatest arts institutions. I hope to inspire many others to follow this path …. and make my own contribution to professional music making in my home country. Juilliard will open doors to me, and I hope to use the opportunity to open doors for others as well by forging international relationships and collaborations.”

Anthony has kept that promise with regular return performances in Australia with Pinchgut Opera and the Australian Haydn Ensemble.
