Classical Brit Winners 2013

The Classical Brit Award winners for 2013 have been announced with albums devoted to or influenced by film music, dominating the selections. Established in 2000 to ‘honour and recognise all forms of classical music from contemporary to crossover, opera to soundtracks, traditional to theatre’ the awards are organised by the British Phonographic Industry, the trade association which represents the interests of UK record companies.

Female Artist of the Year: Nicola Benedetti for The Silver Violin

Male Artist of the Year: Daniel Barenboim for Beethoven For All, Elgar/Carter Cello Concertos

Mastercard’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year:  Amy Dickson for Dusk & Dawn

Composer: Hans Zimmer for The Dark Knight Rises ( Original Sound Track), Man Of Steel (Original Sound Track)

Critic’s Award: Jonas Kaufmann for Wagner

Outstanding Contribution to Music in association with Raymond Weil: Hans Zimmer

Classic FM Album of the Year in association with MasterCard: André Rieu for Magic of the Movies
