Australian Haydn Ensemble Features CPE Bach

December 11, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

The Australian Haydn Ensemble presents C.P.E. Bach: Universe of Harmony unveiling rich musical worlds in this concert featuring Guest Director and harpsichord soloist Chad Kelly and cello soloist Daniel Yeadon.  There are concerts in Bathurst (Tuesday December 13) and Canberra (Wednesday December 14) as well as in Sydney.

Keyboard player Chad Kelly from the UK is a rapidly rising formidable continuo player and director, who has worked with the likes of Rachel Podger, Trevor Pinnock and John Eliot Gardiner. The AHE welcomes him as Guest Director for this program of rich and strange music from the cusp of the Classical era.

Kelly performs with founder and artistic director of the AHE, Skye McIntosh and ensemble member, scholar and cello virtuoso Daniel Yeadon. Their program includes music by Telemann, Benda and Herschel alongside those of CPE Bach after whom the concert is named.

Guest Director Chad Kelly says “The music you will hear is indicative of an outward-looking and fertile musical landscape, one developed in the courts of musical centres such as Hamburg and Berlin. Telemann, C.P.E. Bach, and Jiří Benda are all composers from this lineage, and their music reveals an incredible scope of imagination, wit and individuality. Of particular interest, too, is the music of William Herschel. A name better known in the field of Astronomy, his music, and its distinctive German-British accent, has been a revelation.”

The Sydney performance will be streamed live on Australian Digital Concert Hall.

The program: C.P.E. BACH Symphony in C major Wq. 182 No. 3/ WILLIAM HERSCHEL Sinfonia No. 8 in C minor/ C.P.E. BACH
