Nomad Plays Mendelssohn String Quartets

June 11, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Nomad String Quartet plays two string quartets from Mendelssohn’s opus 44 in its upcoming concert.

The String Quartet No. 4 in E minor is laced with passion and drama. Melancholic moments envelope a beautiful slow movement that is interpreted as a ‘song without words’ showcasing Mendelssohn’s mastery at making instruments sing. The String Quartet No. 3 in D major by contrast, was described by Mendelssohn himself as ‘spirited.’

Mendelssohn was a formidable composer, writing some of his most famous music while he was still a teenager. These two quartets were written in his late twenties, shortly after marrying his beloved Cécile.

Nomad String Quartet was formed in Sydney as the Ben Adler Quartet in 2021. The ensemble has given over 120 concerts to a wide range of audiences in conventional and unconventional settings, playing music ranging from Vivaldi to Daft Punk, Mozart to Michael Jackson, Mendelssohn to Danish folk songs, Tchaikovsky to Hans Zimmer, Borodin to Anime soundtracks and more.
