Sydney Chamber Choir Light & Shade

November 19, 2022 @ 7:30 pm

Sydney Chamber Choir with the Muffat Collective directed by Sam Allchurch presents Light & Shade, a journey deep into the heart of hope.

From German Baroque genius Heinrich Schütz, in his 350th anniversary year, comes Musikalische Exequien an extraordinary Requiem which envisions light in the most harrowing of circumstances: funeral music in the midst of war that stubbornly refuses to submit to despair. Surrounding this profound piece is the radiant beauty of music by JS Bach, John Rutter, the neglected 17th-century master Franz Tunder, and music by the Australian composer Brooke Shelley, including the world premiere of her new work, Heavenly Father commissioned by the choir.

This concert will be livestreamed on Australian Digital Concert Hall. Digital tickets.

Performers: Sydney Chamber Choir, Muffat Collective, Sam Allchurch, conductor

The program: FRANZ TUNDER Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott/  BROOKE SHELLEY Praise the Lord/ BROOKE SHELLEY Heavenly Father (World premiere)/ HEINRICH SCHÜTZ Musikalische Exequien (Requiem)/ JOHN RUTTER Hymn to the Creator of Light/JS BACH Lobet den Herrn
