The Metropolitan Orchestra’s Carnivals & Adventures

The Metropolitan Orchestra’s third Met Concert of 2023, Music for a New World, promises an event filled with masterworks and new sounds inspired by new worlds.

The concert opens with two Australian works, starting with Stephen Lalor’s moving Mima Concert Overture followed by a world-premiere from one of Australia’s powerhouse new composers and contemporary artist Heather Shannon of the Jezabels. Titled Strange Roses, this unique new work will meld the sounds of the synthesizer performed by Shannon, with a full orchestra to showcase how music can constantly evolve to shape a changing new world.

Led by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, yje concert includes Dvořák’s sumptuous Symphony Number 9, New World. Performed in the ornate Marrickville Town Hall at the family friendly time of 3:30pm on Sunday August 20th, this is an event for young and old, fans of fine music or newcomers to the power and finesse of a live orchestra.
