Western Sydney Philharmonc’s Debut Orchestral Concert

The Western Sydney Philharmonic (West Phil) performs its first orchestral concert in September 2022, led by Maximilian Holzner and Kristian Winther. Conducted by Kristian Winther with violin soloist Anna Da Silva Chen and soprano Chloe Lankshear, the program features the Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 77 by Shostakovich and the Symphony No. 4 in G Major by Mahler.

The orchestra was launched in February 2022 by Kim Williams AM in February 2022 at Riverside Theatres in Parramatta. West Phil is the first orchestral philharmonic in Western Sydney since the 19th century. Artistic Director Kristian Winther says, “The aim of West Phil is to bring students and top professional musicians and performers together, to learn from each other and to create exciting and unforgettable performances and experiences in Western Sydney.”

The concert is the culmination of a music camp for students, thirty of them high school students and the remainder are post-secondary school (up to age 25).
