Renowned chamber music series Selby & Friends will present its final performances for 2015 with Basically Beethoven ‘2’, continuing the crowd pleasing success of previous Beethoven performances as pianist and founder of the ensemble Kathryn Selby, reunites with fellow Beethoven devotee, cellist Timo-Veikko Valve and a new friend, acclaimed concertmaster and violinist Dale Barltrop.

Barltrop, from Brisbane, is currently based with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in Canada but will return to Australia to continue his role as co-concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and leader of the Australian String Quartet next year.

Selby, Australia’s pre-eminent chamber music pianist, boasts a string of international and Australian performance awards praising her ‘formidable talent’.  In 2016, Selby & Friends, the ensemble which she founded and continues to direct, celebrates 10 years of successful and artistically acclaimed musical collaborations.

Valve has performed numerous times with Selby and the pair often perform together whenever Valve’s busy schedule as Principal Cello with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) permits. he has performed with the ACO since 2006.

Selby’s passion for Beethoven, underpinned by her PhD study of the composer, is shared by the other performing artists. Their experience and intimate knowledge of the repertoire is set to ensure an entertainnig and scholarly illustration of the composer.
