Sumi Jo sings in Sydney

Soprano Sumi Jo returns to Sydney in November presenting a once only recital of operatic, sacred and concert arias. Coloratura is what Sumi Jo does best and this programme will include some of the most dazzling and complex amongst them.

Sumi Jo’s performances around the world have been conducted by acclaimed musicians, in the most prestigious concert halls and opera houses, Her collaborators in venues like the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, the Opéra National de Paris, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Sydney Opera House, include Sir Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, James Levine, Kent Nagano, and Richard Bonynge.

Sumi Jo has more than 50 recordings to her credit, including 10 solo albums, and multiple opera, oratorio and orchestral recordings. She won a Grammy  for her recording of Richard Strauss’ opera Die Frau ohne Schatten with Sir Georg Solti.

Performing at the piano with Sumi Jo is Gary Mathewman one of Britain’s leading recital pianists and vocal coaches. His recital partners include Sir Thomas Allen, Roderick Williams, Simon Keenlyside, Mark Padmore and Ian Bostridge. Gary Mathewman has performed around the world with recent recitals at New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Wigmore Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein. In the UK, he has performed at the Aldeburgh,  Oxford Lieder, Leeds Lieder, Hay-on-Wye and Bath Festivals. In 2011 Gary Mathewman joined BBC Cardiff Singer of the World as official accompanist.
