Sydney Youth Orchestras’ Open Invitation To Play Beethoven In Classical Karaoke

Australians of all ages and talent levels are invited to perform Beethoven’s iconic 5th Symphony, with Classical Karaoke!

As part of Make Music Day on Sunday June 21, 2020, Classical Karaoke is encouraging ALL instrumentalists, conventional and unconventional, to join in this national music making initiative.  The time has come to dust off the old kit, and get match-fit for your symphonic debut.

An initiative of Sydney Youth Orchestras, Classical Karaoke is looking for everything, from the classic violin, trumpet and cello, to the not so classic harmonica, guitar, even the kazoo – of all skill levels! This is a rare chance for musicians young and old – skilled or just taking up the instrument anew – to join a unique orchestra, no matter where you are, what your age, or what you can or can’t play!

Once you register your part, you’ll be sent your music and rehearsal track, and given two weeks to practice. Then on Sunday June 21, you’ll be on the virtual stage, with the Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO), led by Brian Buggy OAM. Similar to singing karaoke, you’ll be able to follow the baton. And if you are not brave enough to go solo, then bring a friend, flatmate, or the whole family! You might miss a few notes here or there, but hey, who cares?!

This interactive, live, digital performance of an arrangement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is designed to engage and inspire those who have been practicing their instrument for two years, twenty-two years or not touched an instrument since primary school. Participants will login to ‘play along at home’ to Brian Buggy conducting his own arrangement, alongside an audio track featuring SYO musicians and alumni.
