To farewell the old year and ring in the new, the Song Company presents 12 new songs and stories, one for each month of the year.

After a year traversing the globe (metaphorically of course) and discovering the musical gems hidden throughout Prague, Turkey and Italy, the Song Company’s final program will see them touch down on home soil to celebrate in spectacular fashion.

The all-Leunig Song Almanac features songs, stories, drawings and poems to celebrate every month of the year. Twelve of Australia and New Zealand’s most exciting composers, together with the Song Company, have created a new musical calendar drawing on the words and works of one of Australia’s biggest icons, Michael Leunig.

A wry and whimsical observer of life, Leunig’s cartoons, stories, poems and drawings are never less than mirth-provoking. But as much as he is a superb humourist, first and foremost he is an observer, philosopher, social commentator and historian of the absurd catalyst for free thinking.

With brand new music by composers Alice Chance, Drew Crawford, Gareth Farr, James Wade, Kate Moore, Kate Neal, Katy Abbott, Lachlan Skipworth, Lyle Chan, Mark Viggiani, Robert Davidson and Ruth McCall, this series of concerts reaffirms the Song Company’s international reputation for outstanding quality and innovation..
