Percussion Theatre From Kaylie Dunstan

Percussionist Kaylie Dunstan presents Percussion Theatre a programme of solo percussion works infused with theatre in a concert that is the culmination of research into innovative repertoire that utilises voice, movement and drama, creating music that is fired with new and exciting dimensions.

Nearing the end of her Master’s degree at the Sydney conservatorium of Music, Kaylie says she is celebrating by presenting the most “dazzling, outrageous and entertaining solo concert I can think of, including two world premieres and an Australian premiere.”

She adds “As well as playing a huge range of percussion instruments, I will be using my vocals, choreography and some acting skills to bring to light some truly remarkable compositions.” Included in the programme are Quête by the Australian composer Richard David Hames which is receiving its world premiere after 30 years, and a brand new work for marimba and poet by another Australian, Christina Green. 

Kaylie received her Bachelor’s degree at the Sydney Conservatorium before moving to  Europe in 2009. There, she completed a performance Diploma at the Music School in Detmold, Germany, followed by two years of studying and teaching in Stuttgart. Kaylie returned to Sydney in 2013 and has since being undertaking a research Master’s under the tutelage of Claire Edwardes and Daniel Rojas.

Kaylie made her solo debut in 2014 with the support of the New Music Network and in the same year she received the Rotary Club Felix Switzer prize for outstanding performance.
