Applications Open For Young Mannheim Symphonists 2026
Applications are now open for the 2026 Young Mannheim Symphonists (YMS) programs run by the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra (ARCO), Australia’s only national youth orchestra devoted to historically informed performance of Classical and Romantic music (HIP).
Co-directed by the internationally-acclaimed Rachael Beesley, Neal Peres Da Costa and Nicole van Bruggen with world-class faculty, the YMS National and State Academies give students and emerging musicians:
• the chance to experience the transformative power of historical performance & instruments
• workshops, tutorials, chamber music, side-by-side rehearsals, career development
• a triumphant final public performance
• the inspiration of bringing music to life through HIP
• deepening musical passion, expertise and understanding
• making new and lifelong friends
REPERTOIRE: Masterworks by Beethoven, Mozart, Spohr, Suk and Richard Strauss!
AGE: 23 and under
DATES: NATIONAL ACADEMY: 6–11 July | Sydney
QLD STATE ACADEMY: 22–26 September | Brisbane
VIC STATE ACADEMY: 29 September – 3 October | Melbourne
PLAYING LEVEL: Performance standards differ for each instrument, but as a guide, a minimum of AMEB Grade 7–8 level or equivalent is recommended.
COST: $460 for State Academies and $880 for residential National Academy (bursaries available for participants with financial need)
