Noël! Noël! the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s annual Christmas concert is in its 15th year. The series has become a seasonal fixture with concerts in churches and concert halls in and around Sydney, as well as in Wollongong.

“In  Noël! Noël! we blend the ancient with the modern in our arrangements and also instrumentally,” says Artistic Director Paul Dyer. Each Noël! Noël! has a unique theme and this year, Dyer has drawn his inspiration from Celtic traditions. His 2013 programme will include “stunningly beautiful hymns of the 16th century, a Welsh lullaby, Irish melodies, Scottish Ayres and a song by Secret Garden. The Medieval cornetto will sound alongside the modern saxophone; the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra will perform alongside the Australian Brandenburg Choir. Paul Dyer will direct the concert from the harpsichord.

As is often the case, this year’s soloist is drawn from within the ranks of the choir. For 22 year old counter-tenor Maximilian Riebl, it is his 7th season with the ensemble. Born in Melbourne, Max has lived in Vienna where he undertook vocal training at the Vienna Music School. He is presently performing in the Belvoir Street production of Hamlet with Robyn Nevin and Toby Schmitz.
