“A Masked Ball” unmasked

These fabulous images are from Opera Australia’s production of Verdi’s A Masked Ball opens tonight in Sydney. A co-production with Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, La Monnaie in Brussels and the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet in Oslo, A Masked Ball is presented in association with Sydney Festival.

This world première new  was devised by La Fura del Baus, the Catalan theatre group which had its beginnings in street theatre in 1979.

Conducted by Andrea Molino and directed by Alex Ollé, the cast features Diego Torre as Gustav III, Tamar Iveri as Amelia, José Carbó as Count Anckarstroem, Mariana Pentcheva as Ulrica Arvidson, Taryn Fiebig as Oscar,  Luke Gabbedy as Christian,  Richard Anderson as Count Ribbing, Jud Arthur as Count Horn, Andrew Brunsdon as Judge and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra with the Opera Australia Chorus.

The season lasts from January 16th to February 12th 2013.
