A metropolitan miscellany

A diverse programme of rich melodies and harmonies launches the 2012 season for the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Grace Williams.

Pablo De Sarasate’s irresistible single movement gypsy themed Zigeunerweisen opens  the programme featuring violinist Dan Russell. Antonín Dvořák’s 5 movement Czech Suite continues the east European mood, followed by the shimmering Pavane by Gabriel Faure and Gustav Holst’s St Paul’s Suite.

The performance ends with Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No1 The Classical  an homage to the style of classical writing with a 20th century twist and familiar themes that also appear in his ballet Romeo and Juliet.

It’s’ a busy weekend for the orchestra with two performances – one in North Sydney and the other in Leichhardt.
