A New Album From The Idea Of North: A World Of Christmas

Australia’s favourite contemporary a capella ensemble The Idea of North, last week released its twelfth album, A World of Christmas in its debut orchestral collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. On this ABC Classics release, the multiple ARIA Award winning ensemble combines its shimmering harmonies and pure tones with the rich sonic textures of the full symphony orchestra under concertmaster Eoin Andersen,  conducted by Benjamin Northey.

Recorded live in concert at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, A World of Christmas is available as a single CD and as a digital album. It highlights some of the many ways in which Christmas is celebrated and experienced throughout the world. It brings together festive songs and music from many cultures, including traditional carols and well-loved Christmas tunes.

Joining TION on this album is the internationally renowned vocal percussionist Kaichiro Kitamura – his incredible percussive flair cementing their recent upgrade to a quintet. Eadric Ayres makes a special guest appearance to narrate the hilarious Not Quite The Night Before Christmas, an irreverent ride through the great Christmas tunes, commissioned especially for this album.
