An Evening Of Italian Song

Chanteuse Nadia Piave and guitarist Gino Pengue present “Vacanze Romane” or What I Did On My Holidays! – songs and stories from boats, beaches, bars and a B&B or two… from the Cinque Terre to the Amalfi Coast. In the line- up are canzoni, serenate e ‘fiction’ by Gino Paoli, Ennio Morricone, Frescobaldi, di Capua, de Andre, Tony Renis, Mina, Radiotelevisione Italiana and more… …

It was a small bus rather than a vespa, and the 40 plus degree heatwave in Europe right now didn’t make for the most comfortable travel conditions. But for the whole of July the Piave-Benvenuti clan took on some of Italy’s coastal glories as well as all the major tourist centres (in the height of Italian summer – what were we thinking!) There were those endless midday reruns of Don Matteo and Mina docos too… but the Piave-Benvenutis lived, deliciously, to tell the tale. Now Nadia wants to sing it for you – suddenly all those songs from Italian summers of long ago make sense…

Nadia Piave and Gino Pengue are two of the keepers of the flame of Italian popular music in Australia. They are both teachers as well as performers and are both members of the Italian pop song collective Progetto Battisti, which this year becomes Progetto de Andre, again at Django Bar in November.
