Clear the diary! Opera superstar Anna Netrebko and tenor Yusif Eyvazov will sing in Sydney in October in their Australian debut, with the Opera Australia Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov.

The opera world’s superstar couple will perform in Sydney and Melbourne for Frontier Touring in An Evening Of Opera Highlights at Melbourne’s Plenary on Saturday 21 October and Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 24 October.

Anna Netrebko is arguably the world’s reigning prima donna. She has tremendous popular appeal, starring in major productions at leading opera houses across the globe. She combines superb musicianship and dramatic talent with an extraordinary voice and impeccable technique. She was the first classical musician to be chosen as one of the “Time 100,”  in Time magazine’s list of the world’s most influential people. With her distinctive voice and timbre and charismatic stage presence, she makes an indelible impression in opera and recital.

Last season Netrebko received an eleven-minute ovation for her season-opening appearance in the title role of Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco at La Scala, made her sold-out solo recital debut at the Metropolitan Opera, and a triumphant foray into a Wagnerian role as Elsa in Lohengrin at Dresden’s Semperoper.

Partners in life and on stage, joining Netrebko in these recitals is tenor Yusif Eyvazov.  In 2015/16 Eyvazov made a series of important debuts in world-renowned opera houses. He starred as Canio in Los Angeles Opera’s production of I Pagliacci conducted by Plácido Domingo, made his first appearances at the Metropolitan Opera and the Wiener Staatsoper singing Calaf in Turandot, and debuts at both the Paris Opera and at the Staatsoper Berlin as Manrico in Il Trovatore. He made his Salzburg Festival debut in the summer of 2016, as Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut. On the concert stage he sang in Parma with Maestro Marco Boemi in a programme of works by Verdi and Puccini, in concert with Riccardo Muti in December, and undertook a major concert tour throughout Asia alongside Anna Netrebko, in the spring of 2016.

Conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov will conduct the Opera Australia Orchestra on this tour. Tatarnikov is Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg. He has conducted at some of the world’s most best known orchestras and  in ‘houses’ around the world, including Teatro alla Scala Milan, Bavarian State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin and the Mariinsky Theatre; the City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. He has also worked with renowned soloists including Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Kristine Opolais and Vadim Repin.
