APRA AMCOS Announce 2014 Art Music Award Winners
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners in the 2014 APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards, announced in Melbourne tonight!
The awards recognise achievement in the composition, performance, education and presentation of Australian music including outstanding contributions by individuals and organisations in Australian music, music education, experimental music, jazz and regional music.
Here is the list of Art Music Award winners for 2014:
Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music – Richard Gill
The New South Wales State Award in the category of Excellence in Music Education – Kim Waldock, Head of Education, Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Work of the Year: Instrumental – Aerea composed by Mary Finsterer, performed by the Monash Art Ensemble.
Work of the Year: Orchestral – Golden Years composed by James Ledger, performed by Margaret Blades and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Otto Tausk.
Work of the Year: Vocal/Choral – Last Words composed by Andrew Ford, text by Tim Winton, Dorothoy Porter et al, performed by Jane Sheldon and the Seraphim Trio.
Work of the Year: Jazz – Tall Tales composed by Paul Grabowsky performed by Monash Art Ensemble.
Performance of the Year – Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Simone Young, soloist Peter Coleman-Wright, performing The Last Days of Socrates by Brett Dean with text by Graeme Ellis.
Award for Excellence by an Organisation – Australian Art Orchestra for touring, community building, recording, creativity & leadership.
Award for Excellence by an Individual – Catherine Crock for The Hush Collection, Volumes 1-13.
Award for Excellence in Music Education – Cathy Aggett for new Australian art songs for low voice.
Award for Excellence in a Regional Area – Goulburn Regional Conservatorium for The Goulburn Oratorio.
Award for Excellence in Experimental Music – Cat Hope for Drawn From Sound exhibition.
Award for Excellence in Jazz – Alister Spence and Myra Melford for Everything Here Is Possible.
