Asia Pacific Competition Winners Join The Metropolitan Orchestra

 The Lyrebird Trio, winners of the 2013 Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition make their debut with a full orchestra when they perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) conducted by Sarah-Grace Williams.

Beating professional contestants from around Australia and the Asia Pacific Region, the Lyrebird Trio won both piano trio prizes at the quadrennial Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition in July 2013. They subsequently featured in the ABC documentary “Ivory, Strings and Bows” broadcast in over 40 countries, as well as performing throughout Canada as the 2014 Winter Musicians-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts. 

Formed in early 2013, the Lyrebird Trio is comprised of  violinist Glenn Christensen, cellist Simon Cobcroft and pianist Angela Turner, all distinguished graduates of the Queensland Conservatorium. In addition, Glenn Christensen is Principal First Violin with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Simon Cobcroft is Associate Principal Cello with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Angela Turner is a lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.
