The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) under Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams has opened applications for its inaugural Composer Development Program in 2016 offering a unique opportunity for composers to extensively workshop and develop their composition and overall craft within a professional context. Submissions are due by February 19, 2016.

A three-stage project, TMO’s Composer Development Program will give eight composers from New South Wales who are not yet established in the Australian orchestral scene, the rare opportunity to collaborate with a professional conductor to review and prepare their scores prior to a workshop with a small ensemble comprising principal players from TMO.

Four composers will then be selected to further workshop their piece with the full symphony orchestra, receiving a recording of their composition.

As well, there is the intention to select one or more pieces for inclusion in The Metropolitan Orchestra’s flagship MET CONCERT series in 2017 and the possibility of one composer receiving a commission from TMO to write a new work for the 2018 season.
