David Paul Landa piano scholarship winner announced

Pianist Young Kwon Choi has been awarded the 2012 biennial Albert Paul Landa Scholarship.

In a small ceremony at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, presented by Musica Viva, the CEO Mary Jo Capps made the award on behalf of the NSW Government. The award of $25,000 is a travelling scholarship in memory of the late NSW Attorney General, Paul Landa, QC MP.

Following the presentation of the award, Young Kwon Choi performed a recital of Haydn’s Sonata no 47 in B minor Hob XVI:32 and in vivid contrast Gaspard de la Nuit by Ravel in a distinctive statement of his versatility and ability.

The Korean born Young Kwon Choi is a  graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied under Professor Ann Carr-Boyd and Dr Paul Rickard-Ford. He furthered hs studies in Graz, Austria and is presently completing postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy in London.

Looking ahead, in 2013, Young Kwon Choi will be touring to France, Belgium, Denmark, Austria and South Korea.
