Ensemble Offspring’s Hatched Academy Calls For Entries

Applications are still open for two streams of Ensemble Offspring’s emerging artist development program, The Hatched Academy, which is designed to provide practical experience to the next generation of innovative young performers and composers from around Australia.

The program draws on the skills and expertise of Ensemble Offspring’s Artistic Director, Claire Edwardes, core instrumentalists and guest mentors. It offers an in-road into the world of new music making by providing participants the opportunity to gain valuable new skills and insights into aspects of performance and management in the music profession.

 

STREAM TWO: OPEN MIC SESSIONS Applications close on March 30, 2018.

Are you an emerging new or experimental music soloist or group looking for performance opportunities?

In its very first year, Hatched Open Mic is your chance to present your own concert with direct in-kind support from Ensemble Offspring in production, marketing, venue-hire, experience and know-how.

Applications are welcome from artists not based in Sydney, however transport and accommodation costs incurred by artists travelling to Sydney will not be covered by the ensemble. There is no age limit for applicants. “Emerging” is defined here as an artist in the early stages of their career or someone who has yet to be significantly recognised.

STREAM THREE: HATCHED ACADEMY – COMPOSER SUMMER SCHOOL Applications close on March 30, 2018.

Held in Sydney from 10-14 December 2018, this will be a five-day intensive program presented by Ensemble Offspring. Activities include instrumental workshops, one-on-one mentoring and peer sessions, group improvisations, round table discussions, professionally documented casual concerts.

The Hatched Academy Composer Summer School will be open to six successful compositional applicants from around Australia, and will be led by Artistic Director, Claire Edwardes, London-based guest mentor and co-founder of Ensemble Offspring, Matthew Shlomowitz and a faculty of high-profile composer and performers.

Emerging composers from around Australia are encouraged to apply. All travel costs (flights and accommodation) will be covered by Ensemble Offspring for interstate attendees. No fee will be paid for attendance and living costs will not be provided during the week. There is no age limit, however composers should be within 8 years of graduating from a music degree at a tertiary institution.
