This year, the McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod celebrates its 80th Anniversary with its biggest and best festival ever. Its 400-event program is packed with a wide range of classical and contemporary solo and group events for singers, dancers, actors and musicians. Opening on the 13th May, there are new additions to the program including a special Piano Accompaniment Award (30/u), along with events for Infant School Choirs (K-2) and School Jazz Trios (19/u).
As in previous years, the $57,000 Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald’s Operatic Aria and the $36,000 McDonald’s Ballet Scholarships are the highlights of the competition, with valuable scholarships in the solo instrumental and piano categories as well. Other key events include the Sydney Eisteddfod Musica Viva Chamber Award and the Robert & Elizabeth Albert Junior Classical Ballet Scholarship. This year, there are new rewards for choirs as well with the Sydney Eisteddfod John Lamble Foundation Australasian Choral Championships along with a special $25,000 Choral Grand Prix.
