Klassik Underground Comes To Sydney

Virtuoso violist and innovator Tahlia Petrosian brings Klassik Underground to Australia, performing in Sydney at Pier 2/3, as well as at Adelaide’s Illuminate Festival, Melbourne’s Recital Centre and in Canberra.

Sydney born and Leipzig based, Tahlia Petrosian is recognised as one of the foremost creative forces who is transforming classical music in the 21st century. Her unique approach to classical performance has garnered international attention and acclaim for her ability to redefine the boundaries of the genre.

Tahlia Petrosian’s Klassic Underground is a concert series that combines classical music with the urban culture of the 21st century to create exciting, innovative and extraordinary concert experiences. The two KU  Illuminate concerts, one of which will feature the musicians from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, will create a unique and immersive experience for audiences, blurring the lines between classical sounds, spellbinding visuals and alternative spaces, all performed by a network of local and international collaborators and conspirators.

The Gewandhausorchester is the oldest civic symphony orchestra in the world with its roots going back to 1793. It is renowned for its highly individual, warm, dark sound palette and the extraordinarily rich diversity of its repertoire. In addition to their performance at Klassik Underground at Illuminate Festival, the eight musicians from this prestigious orchestra will perform a program an all-Schubert program in concerts at Ukaria, Melbourne Recital Centre and Pier 2/3 in Sydney.

The eight Musicians of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Leipzig are:  Yun-Jin Cho Violin (Gewandhaus Associate Concertmaster), Karl Heinrich Niebuhr Violin (Gewandhaus Principal Second Violin),Tahlia Petrosian Viola, Axel von Huene Cello,  Burak Marlali Double Bass (Gewandhaus Principal Double Bass),  Edgar Heßke Clarinet (Gewandhaus Principal E flat Clarinet),  Axel Benoit Bassoon (Gewandhaus First Principal Bassoon),  Simen Fegran Horn.
