North Sydney Symphony Plays Orchestral Blockbusters

July 29, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

The North Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Steven Hillinger with guest concert master Adrian Keating and featuring virtuoso violinist Kristian Winther, plays a trio of some of the most beautiful and emotional orchestral works ever written. The program opens with Sibelius Finlandia, a powerful and patriotic work that evokes the beauty and spirit of Finland.

Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto is one of the most popular and enduring works in the violin repertoire. It showcases the virtuosity of the soloist and the beauty of the violin. It will be performed by Kristian Winther, one of Australia’s foremost violinists. As a soloist, Kristian has appeared with the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Christchurch and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Auckland Philharmonic, Gruppo Montebello and Orchestra Romantique. He has also toured extensively overseas, and has performed as concertmaster with many of the world’s top orchestras.
The concert closes with Dvořák’s Symphony No 8. Written in 1889, this work showcases Dvořák’s mastery of orchestration and his deep understanding of the human soul. The symphony is filled with rich melodies, lush harmonies, and powerful rhythms that have cemented it as a firm concert favourite.
The program: Sibelius: Finlandia/ Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto/ Dvorak: Symphony No.8
