Opera Australia Roberto Devereux In Concert

March 16, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - March 18, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

After the success of bel canto masterpieces Anna Bolena in 2019 and Maria Stuarda in Concert in 2022, Opera Australia will present the third opera in this compelling trilogy of operas composed by Donizetti. Roberto Devereux will be performed in concert, starring Italian soprano Roberta Mantegna as Elisabetta in her Australian debut. Also making his Australian debut will be conductor Andrea Sanguineti, recently appointed Music Director of the Aalto-Musiktheater and the Essen Philharmonic Choir.

Italian tenor Valerio Borgioni returns to Sydney to sing the title role of Roberto Devereux, after making his Australian debut in Maria Stuarda in 2022. Borgioni’s performance as the Earl of Leicester showed tremendous promise for his youth. Completing the dramatic love triangle is Opera Australia principal soprano Jane Ede as Sara, the Duchess of Nottingham. Jane makes her role debut in this concert after reprising her nuanced performance as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni earlier this year.

Italian baritone Giorgio Caoduro  will sing the role of The Duke of Nottingham, Roberto’s best friend and Sara’s husband, joining the cast after performing the role of Michonnet in OA’s Australian premiere of Rosetta Cucchi’s production of Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur.

The leading cast will be completed with four accomplished OA singers all making role debuts, Iain Henderson, Richard Anderson, Anthony Mackey and Ryan Sharp. They will be joined by the thrilling Opera Australia Chorus.
