‘Hairspray’ brings it together

Hairspray – a mist from a pressurised canister that sculpts independently minded strands of tresses into a cohesive whole. Which is exactly what Hairspray – the Musical does, bringing together a community that is dealing with racial segregation, teenage angst, aspirations to stardom and issues surrounding body image. Set in Baltimore, Maryland in 1962, the musical sends its message with joy, humour and irresistible music.

Rockdale Musical Society with Canterbury Theatre Guild present the first Sydney community production of Hairspray, directed by Chris Scarpellino, choreographed by Craig Nhobbs, with musical direction by Andy Peterson.

Sally Redman sings the role of Tracy Turnblad with Michelle Lansdown as Velma von Tussle, Chae Rogan as Tracy’s mother Edna and Tim Watson as Link Larkin.
