Helpmann Award Nominees 2016


The nominees fort he 2016 Helpmann Awards are out! There are 9 Opera and Classical music categories with 35 nominees from emerging artists like Jeremy Kleeman (nominated for Best Male Performer in a Supporting Role in an Opera) to Renee Fleming (Best Individual Classical Performance) and giants like Opera Australia (nominated in several categories), locking horns with the likes of the small but influential Sydney Chamber Opera.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on July 26, 2016 and simulcast on Foxtel Arts.

The Helpmann Awards were established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia and are named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann CBE, (1909- 1986), the distinguished  Australian dancer, actor, theatre director and choreographer. The awards “recognise, celebrate and promote” the Australian live performance industry, equivalent to the Tony Awards on Broadway and the Olivier Awards in London.
