IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition Announces Five Finalists

Five emerging singers have moved on to the finals of the 2017 IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competiton. They were selected last week from eleven semi-finalists who performed in heats held around the country, in New Zealand and in London.

Damian Arnold (tenor, 25) from NSW, Filipe Manu (tenor, 24) from New Zealand, Daniel Carison (baritone, 24) from Victoria, Paull-Anthony Keightley (bass-baritone, 25) from WA and Shikara Ringdahl ((mezzo-soprano, 25) from Brisbane, all accompanied by David Harper, were selected by the judging panel which included National Adjudicator Catrin Johnsson, Tahu Matheson, Emma Matthews, Raff Wilson and Narelle Yeo.

For the finals, these fine young singers will perform from the lieder and aria repertorie, singing two pieces accompanied by the Opera Australia Orchestra with guest conductor Maestro Nicholas Milton AM. They vie for over $200,00 in prizes, career opportunities and the chance to take home the Marianne Mathy Scholarship.
