Inspirations – Caro Quartet And The Willoughby Symphony

The Willoughby Symphony’s second concert of the series, Inspirations guest-stars the renowned Caro String Quartet in a programme directed by conductor, Alexander Briger, Artistic Director of the Australian World Orchestra.

The Willoughby Symphony and the Caro String Quartet comprising violinists Catalin Ungureanu and Airena Nakamura, violist Ewen Foster and cellist Kenichi Mizushima, will perform Schubert’s C major Symphony, the overture from Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

This concert will also introduce the 2016 Composer-in-Residence, Matthew Hindson AM, one of Australia’s most intriguing and original voices. Matthew’s work, The Rave and the Nightingale is a fantasy for string quartet and string orchestra based on the first movement of Schubert’s Quartet no. 15.

Matthew Hindson AM is a leading Australian composer of his generation. His music has been performed around the nation and overseas by the London Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic among others. Matthew’s music has been set by dance companies such as the Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, National Ballet of Japan and the Sydney Dance Company.
