Nicole Canham Delivers 2016 Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address

PGH

The 2016 Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address is to be delivered by New Music Artist and Artistic Director Nicole Canham.

Entitled The Poetry of the Present Nicole Canham, draws upon her unique and expansive creative practice as a performer, artistic director, writer and arts advocate to outline a vision for an inspiring, passionate and connected new music community in this year’s PGH address.

Presenters of the PGH Address, the New Music Network comments that “The Poetry of the Present celebrates the possibilities that come from embracing change. The successes, opportunities and struggles that form a part of many creative people’s lives – often framed in terms of the decline of many cherished ideas, beliefs and values – seem to be converging with a similar, society-wide anguish characterised by uncertainty and fear. “

Nicole Canham argues that while these conditions may seem at first glance to be unfavourable for individual artists and creative communities, rather than despairing at the unknown,  by focusing on possibility, people working across the creative industries have a significant opportunity to empower themselves through reimagining their social role as artists.

The PGH Address is an annual forum which fosters the discussion of issues confronting contemporary music.

There will be a Q and A after the address followed by the recipient of the 2016 Australia Council for the Arts Peggy Glanville-Hicks Residency.

Admission is free on registration.
