Study Confirms Wide-Ranging Benefits Of Arts Education.

Governments take note!

Parents take heart! Those hours of music practice, of driving children to music lessons, rehearsals and concerts – not to mention the cost – are well worth the effort!

The study, undertaken by the University of Sydney and the Australia Council for the Arts and published in the Journal of Educational Psychology  shows that active engagement in the arts has wide ranging benefits in a variety of spheres.  Over 600 students from  15 elementary and high schools were followed over 2 years. The research  demonstrated benefits in academic performance, personal and inter-personal measures.

Associate Professor Michael Anderson, one of the study’s co-authors commented “This study provides new and compelling evidence that the arts should be central to schooling and not left on the fringes.”
