Tar: A Role Written For Blanchett

When Cate Blanchett’s latest movie TÁR premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2022, it received a 6-minute standing ovation. It is due for release in Australia on January 26, 2023 with the soundtrack to the movie released on the Deutsche Grammophon label in October 2022 (digitally and on vinyl). The music includes new works by multiple award-winning Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (soundtracks to Chernobyl and Joker) as well as excerpts from major works by Mahler and Elgar. Also starring in the movie are cellist Sophie Kauer and Nina Hoss (Homeland).

Blanchett takes the role of the fictional character Lydia Tár, a famous composer-conductor and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra, a role that was written espcially for her. In this video of the Venice press conference, the cast and director Todd Field share their insights into taking on the characters and making the movie.
