The Australia Ensemble @UNSW
Continuing its revered tradition of presenting some of the best in Australian composition and performance, the Australia Ensemble is bringing Arthur Benjamin’s rarely-heard clarinet quintet back to the stage – this is a unique opportunity to hear the post-romantic music of this Sydney-born composer brought to life.
Established in 1980 and resident at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the ensemble today comprises violinists Dene Olding and Dimity Hall, violist Irina Morozova, cellist Julian Smiles, pianist Ian Munro, flautist Geoffrey Collins and clarinetist Catherine McCorkhill.
Music by JS Bach and Roger Smalley and an unusual arrangement by Mendelssohn of his first symphony, complete the evening’s programme.
