The Choir of St James’ launches CD project
The Choir of St James’ King Street has been busy recording music for a CD project, Metamorphosis.
Recorded in the reverberant acoustic of the crypt of St Mary’s Cathedral, the project is seeking funding for the CD to become a reality. However, the works recorded include:

One of the special features of this recording is that it features works which the choir commissioned from two of its own choristers. Joseph Twist has extensive and broadbased experience as a composer, singer and arranger of vocal and instrumental classical music, as well as jazz and film music. This year he will move to New York study Scoring for Film and Multimedia at New York University under the auspices of a Brian May scholarship. St James’ soprano Brooke Shelley also performs with innovative electro-acoustic band
Resonaxis.
The Choir of St James’ is one of Australia’s oldest and foremost choirs. Today the choir comprises around a dozen professional adult singers under Conductor and Head of Music at St James, Warren Trevelyan-Jones. Metamorphosis will be the fourth CD in its discography. The choir broadcasts regularly on ABC Radio, both by itself as well as with leading ensembles such as Australian Baroque Brass.
In 2009, the choir performed a sell-out of performance of Handel’s Messiah which was podcast on Radio National.
The choir has appealed for funds through the crowd-funding project Pozible.com “to cover the costs of production and post-production costs to ensure we can do this fine music justice. It is very hard to give local composers exposure through recordings because most projects like this take years to turn a profit and so larger labels won’t take this kind of risk. Any additional funds raised beyond our target will be used to fund manufacturing costs of the CDs themselves.”
