The Sydney Consort: Many Strings Attached

capture

The Sydney Consort presents a rare combination of  early instruments when two violas d’amore are joined by the viola da gamba, theorbo and harpsichord in music composed especially for these great instruments.

Stan Kornel playing baroque violin and viola d’amore and harpsichordist Monika Kornel will perform with Ross Mitchell playing viola d’amore and Shaun Ng playing viola da gamba and theorbo. The mix of baroque compositions from different European countries will showcase the elegance of these instruments in chamber repertoire.

Another highlight of this program will be the unusual 18th century Concerto for Harpsichord and Two Violas d’Amore by an anonymous composer, recently discovered at the Echzell Castle in Hesse, Germany. The other composers whose music features in this concert are Henrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, Robert de Visée, Nicola Matteis and Antonio Vivaldi.
