The Sydney Consort – Mediterranean Baroque

The Sydney Consort 2017 concert season opens with the program Mediterranean Baroque, with music by composers living in south Italy, Sicily, Malta, Turkey and Spain.

The music contains typical dance like rhythms heard in Folia, Ciaccona, Malaguena, Passacaille and Fandango with their southern flavor, unique rhythms and sensual harmonies, making them distinct from baroque music in other European countries.

Music by Gaspar Sanz, Santiago de Murchia, Alonso Mudarra, Andrea Falconieri, Domenico Scarlatti, Salamone Rossi, Martin y Coll, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and others.

The performers: Hans-Dieter Michatz, recorder/ Stan W Kornel,  baroque violin/ Verna Lee, harp/ Monika Kornel harpsichord
