The Burgundian Consort

The Music Performance Unit UNSW has announced two composition prizes for 2020, the Willgoss Ensemble Composition Prize and the Willgoss Choral Composition Prize.

Willgoss Ensemble Composition Prize is a new composition prize, on offer in 2020-only. The winning applicant will be commissioned to compose a short, new work for either: SATB choir with piano or organ, string ensemble, brass and percussion ensemble or woodwind ensemble, as outlined in the Terms and Conditions, for which they will receive a cash prize of $2,500 in addition to the opportunity to have their score performed in 2021. This prize is open to all Australian citizens and permanent residents, of any age. Applications open on July 1, 2020 and closed on August 2, 2020

The Willgoss Choral Composition Prize is a cash prize of $3000 in addition to the opportunity to have their score performed by the Burgundian Consort in its annual evening recital in October 2021. Applications open on July 1, 2020 and close on January 29, 2021.

The prizes have been donated by Dr Richard Willgoss, and his wife Sue, as a way of supporting and inspiring composers of the highest standard.

The Willgoss Ensemble Composition Prize is aimed at encouraging and promoting the creation of an original work for ensemble while the Willgoss Choral Composition Prize reflects those aims for the creation of an original work for unaccompanied choir. Both contests support a thriving instrumental and choral program at UNSW Australia as represented by the Music Performance Unit.
