Vale Taryn Fiebig

SoundsLikeSydney grieves with Australia’s singing community on hearing the news that soprano Taryn Fiebig has died aged 49 after an extended battle with cancer.

Taryn had many star acts – Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro as well as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Her light and lyrical voice lent itself to baroque and classical repertoire although she also sang Wagner, as Gutrune in Götterdämmerung and Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. Other roles included Nanetta, Despina, Musetta, Aphrodite in For the love the of Nightingale, Adele, Belinda and Galatea, just to name a few, and numerous music theatre roles. She won a Helpmann Award for the role of Lucy in Bliss. But perhaps her most captivating act was in accompanying herself on the cello as she sang. She was also a much loved teacher, mentor and director.

We will never know what heights she might have reached. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
