download

Soprano Nadia Piave and friends present a Christmas concert in two acts – A Café Christmas Carol and The Blue Gem Shining amongst the Stars.

A Café Christmas Carol features Nadia with guitarist Gino Pengue  and accordionist Ross Maio. The trio will take you on a magical  cafe  adventure accompanied by ghosts of Christmases past, present and future…Nadia, Gino and Ross will play songs from cafes in Paris, Rome, London, and New York; from a piazza in Naples, a cloister in Venice, a chapel in Wolfenbuttel…and maybe even a club in Sydney….

The second act, The Blue Gem Shining amongst the Stars is a much-loved biennial charity  Christmas concert of exquisite music from all over the world. It features a host of musicians from all walks of life: professionals mix it up with amateurs, teachers perform with their students and people from all religions and places celebrate together. In this part of the concert, Nadia, Gino and Ross will be joined by tenor Michael Gioiello, barocktenor Richard Black, soprano Nicole Thomson, recorder player Hans-Dieter Michatz, flautist Carla Thakrah, violist Romano Crivici, pianists John Martin, Mauro Colombis, Lukas Maio and Emma Grace Stephenson, harpsichordist Monika Kornel, Nadia’s students: Emmie, Jack, Paul and Johanna and the extraordinary Vento Del Sud gruppo folkloristico.

Singer, performer, concert producer, choir wrangler and vocal teacher, Nadia Piave  and recorder player Matthew Ridley started the The Blue Gem Shining Amongst The Stars charity concerts in 2006. Named by tar player Faramehr Farnoosh, the concert in the past has been performed at St Savior’s Church in Redfern and at the Forum in Leichhardt. Funds raised have gone to The Factory Community Centre in Redfern, The Australian Music Fund and the Salvation Army’s Shelter for Trafficked Women

So it’s recorders, short-orders, fiddles, griddles, baroque tales, cocktails, piano players and maybe dragon slayers … topped off with a swoosh of manouche, and finished with a lovely red wine glaze in this Christmas concert like no other.

Tickets: $30 at the door. Proceeds after costs to the Rural Fire Service.
