The music of Christmas comes to life on this album from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus with pianist and conductor Bramwell Tovey.

The orchestra is joined by a 100-voice choir in a performance of favourite festive tunes for a very special symphonic Christmas.

Available from today on CD and in digital format from ABC Classics (ABC 4814650), the album was recorded live at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne, and features conductor, arranger and pianist Bramwell Tovey. The album captures the Christmas spirit with a broad selection of music – from a sentimental I’ll Be Home for Christmas (with violin and piano), to the rousing chorus in God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen. There’s Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and sacred favourites as well amongst the 14 tracks.

The tracks: Sleigh Ride (Anderson)/  The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy/  Personent Hodie/  In the Bleak Mid-Winter/  God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen/  I’ll Be Home for Christmas/  The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)/  Silent Night/  Sleigh Ride (Delius)/  Mary’s Boy Child/  O Come, O Come, Emmanuel/ The Night Before Christmas/ Snow Scene and Waltz of the Snowflakes from The Nutcracker/  Jingle Bells
